It’s More than a Book.
It’s a Call to Action.

How Would a Patriot Act? by political blogger Glenn Greenwald is one man’s transformation from apolitical centrist to citizen activist in defense of our Constitution. How would a patriot act today? Greenwald has some ideas. “Over the past five years, a creeping extremism has taken hold of our federal government that is threatening to alter our system and who we are as a nation.” Greenwald adds, “This extremism is neither conservative nor liberal by nature, but is instead driven by theories of unlimited presidential power that are antithetical to the values that have governed this country since its founding.” First released online, pre-sale orders on Amazon shot to number one from 50,000 in one day.

Unclaimed Territory

Greenwald’s daily blog, Unclaimed Territory, is devoted to the belief that Americans must defend the Constitution when it’s under threat. Like right now. The blog is read by journalists and politicians, and even quoted by Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) in the halls of Congress on the motion to censure the president.

Specter to hold hearings on Bush's lawbreaking powers

We are treated today to a small though vivid illustration of how our democracy is supposed to work. On Sunday, The Boston Globe's Charlie Savage published a lengthy and exceedingly detailed article reporting that "President Bush has quietly claimed the authority to disobey more than 750 laws enacted since he took office, asserting that he has the power to set aside any statute passed by Congress when it conflicts with his interpretation of the Constitution."

Advance Praise

“Glenn Greenwald has assembled a devastating bill of particulars against the Bush and Cheney administration’s insistence on operating outside the rule of law. Greenwald has gathered solid information and marshaled a litany of abuses of power that make Richard Nixon’s imperial presidency look timid. All thinking Americans must answer How Would A Patriot Act? this coming election, and those who ignore what Greenwald has to say act at our collective peril.”

— John W. Dean, former Nixon White House counsel and author of Conservatives Without Conscience

“All citizens, regardless of political party, should be concerned by the issues he raises. Well worth the time to read.”

— Joseph Wilson, Former U.S. ambassador author of The Politics of Truth: Inside the Lies that Led to War and Betrayed My Wife’s CIA Identity

“Often reducing complex legal issues into language anyone can understand, Glenn shows why he’s one of the smartest and most important new voices to emerge in politics in years.”

— Markos Moulitsas, Founder of Daily Kos and co-author of Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots and the Rise of People-Powered Politics

“No matter your political persuasion, this book is a must-read for all Americans who believe the Constitution must remain the law of this land--and a refreshing reminder that there is more than one way to be an American patriot.”

— Arianna Huffington, Editor, Huffington Post

In the News

Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI) cites a post by Glenn Greenwald during the Senate hearing on Feingold's motion to censure Bush. Crediting Greenwald's post, the Senator elaborates on the similarities between the Bush administration's reponses to warrantless wiretapping and those made by John Mitchell under President Nixon.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is now considering Russ Feingold's (D-WI) motion to "censure" the President for allowing warrantless wiretaps of Americans. John Conyers (D-MI) has proposed a select House committee to investigate the President's intent to make war before it was authorized by Congress; manipulating intelligence, encouraging and condoning torture and retaliating against critics.
